Still Life Topic
Still Life Evaluation:
Unit 1: Introduction to Visual Language in Art &
Design 7th of November 2012
Whilst studying the topic of still life I have used a
number of different media’s such as Pen, Pencil (HB, 2B), Ink, Paint, Conte
Crayon, Willow Charcoal, Photography, Sewing and Embroidery. The different
techniques used some had better effects than others the media’s used I prefer
Conte Crayon, Pencil and Embroidery.
We
also looked at 3D which we used rolled up newspaper to create sculptures of the
bird skulls we were drawing in the still life, we also used plaster to create 3D
Plaster Moulds of Random Objects Placed in the Clay.
During the still life we focused on a range of
different things such as Point, Line, Tone, Composition, Texture, and
Colour.
These helped my work because I could use them all
together in my pieces of work which further enhanced the piece of work I was
doing at the time.
Unit 2: Introduction to Research Skills in Art &
Design
During the still life project we had to research a
number of things such as Still Life Artists, Still Life Photographers,
Printmaking Artists/ Lino Print Artists and Example Of their work.
For
This Research I used a range of research such as the Internet, Books, Gallery
Visits and Word of Mouth.
Out
of the all the research methods used the most effective ones were the Gallery
Visits and the Internet.
There are two types of research Primary and Secondary
Research the difference between the two are:
Primary Research is where you get the research direct
from the source for example someone being interviewed the interview research
would be primary research.
Secondary research is information got from somewhere
other than the source for example a newspaper or internet.
Graphics Photoshop
In our graphics lessons we have been using Adobe Photoshop and we have created some images using different effects and tools within photoshop.
We scanned in a image from our sketch books from another lesson this was done to change the effects and use the tools in photoshop. The media used for the scanned image was a HB Pencil drawing.
We scanned the image using image capture the image size is:
Width: 16.69cm
Height: 14.92 cm
Resolution: 72

I cropped the images to select the section of the scan i wanted and resized the image to make smaller.
I used the selection tool to select certain areas to only change and effect that area of the cropped image.
I added another layer so i could make the changes on one layer and not effect the original image, i can then added colour and effect to the image layer.
I also added a filter to the image the filter was image glow.
I have also changed the Hue Saturation to make the colour and effect change.
I had to screen shot my work by pressing Command, Shift and 3 to make a screen shot file on the desktop.

I love this one the best because of its strong colour and the way i have managed to layer the drawing and the image over each other.
Visual Studies:
I have done some various still life Drawings such as Shells and Skulls.
Here are my drawings and Paintings:
These Painting are my favourate of the still life Paintings I have Done.
These were done using watercolour pencils and a Red Handwriting Biro
Textiles
Over the past couple of weeks we have been doing either weaving or sewing/ embrodery.
I did both and these are the results of my work:
3D Sculpture
We made a Clay Print and then Poured Plaster of Paris into the Print to Create a mold.
This was the layout i used for the Mold.
These are my Finnished 3D Sculptures.
Lino Printing
Over the last 2 weeks we have created some drawings that we can use the best one for a lino Print.
I also created some backgrounds using ink and turpentine. Here are my results:
3D Bird Skull
Part finnished 3D Bird Skull (Below)
Finished Bird Skull (Below)
Art History
Colour Theory
We also had a Art History lesson on the Reliability of websites and definitions of art terminology.Such as:
Warm ( Colours that give off a warm feel)
Tint ( Colours that have had white added to them )
Tertiary Colour ( A Primary and Secondary Colour mixed together)
We also looked at the colour wheel and which primary colours makes certain secondary colours for example the primary colours are Red , Yellow and Blue.
Red and Blue = Purple (secondary Colour)
As a group we have created a giant colour wheel out of old discarded things for colour theory.
Birdskull Drawings
