The Figure

The Figure

The Narrative Photography Evaluation:
Unit 2:
I used various different research methods such as books and the internet is a better method of finding research, I looked at a few artists such as Duane Michals and Sandy Skoglund I love the colour in Sandy's work and the detail in the photographs. I like the series of shots by Duane Michals this inspired me to create my own series of time based photographs.

The difference between primary research and secondary research is primary is where you collect the data from the source direct, for example me interviewing a artist or tkaing photographs.
Secondary research is where I look at other peoples research on the internet or a book/ Magazine/ newspaper.
Unit 3:
Most of the types of photography I have researched are contemporary photographs such as Sandy Skoglund. I think contemporary photographys inspired me to do something similar in my own work.
You would find fine art and contemporary photography in maybe an art gallery where as your more likely to find portraits in a family home, photo journalism you could find in a newspaper, commercial photography you are more likely to find in adverts and tv Commercial/ adverts, Editorial Photography is found in magazines and articles. I think my work would fit itto the category of maybe fine art photography/ photo journalism.

Unit 7:
In the figure time based media I used a film camera to catch the series of shpts in black and white. I used this process to catch the time based issue by doing the photographs in time frmaes for a spercific action.
I think the best bits about my work are the tonal quality of my pictures and the clarity of my images.
I think i could have have experimented with trying to make my images larger or created a more inventive series of photographs.

Narrative Photography:
I have taken a series of pictures on film like a story board of 6 pictures which I have then developed using an enlarger and a dark room.
Here is the film split into its sections:
Here are the 6 photographs:

Figure Evalution:

3D Wire Head:

I didn't enjoy the metal work because it was a fiddly job, the finnished piece looks ok.
I used wire and the spot welder to create a self portrait of my head.
Life Drawing:I really enjoyed the life drawing I have had 3 life drawing classes so far.
The first one was point and line in HB.
The second one was was point, line and tone in pen.
The third one was a tonal drawing in williow charcoal.
Printmaking:In Printmaking we have done an etching/ dry point printing we drew a self portrait on paper then etched into a clear plastic sheet, then we rolled on the ink and removed the excess then put with paper through the printing press.
Photography:
In photography we have been using film cameras to take pictures in a series we then developed the filmand enlarged them using the dark room. i really enjoyed using the dark room and developing my pictures.

Textiles:
In textiles we had to create a textiles head, I used sewing , embellishing, felting , drawing and Wonderwebbing.

Narrative Photography:
We are currently using film camera's to take photographs and develop them here are some of the practise ones that i have done.

Graphics:

Graphics Evaluation

I started this topic by researching 7 different artists to see of different ways to do portraiture.
The one 4 I like the most are:
Charis Tsevis
Ian Wright
Murphy Art Elliot
Valerie Belin

My finished Book Cover Design could be better by having a better thought out name and using some more of my own work and better images.

The things I like most about my piece are the to toned colours and layout of my images and the way I have separated my likes and myself,  I like the effects i have put on my images to change things a bit.

The improvements I could make to my finished piece are to change the name of the book and add some more effects and designs, one other thing I could do would be too make the back cover more uniformed rather than having it hanging over onto the spine.

3D Wire Head:

This is my finnished Wire head sculpture.

Graphics (Book Design) :

In Graphics we have to design a book cover for an autobiography we had to use photoshop to add images and use effects to make the cover look good.

This is the finished design for my book
I like the finnished Design but i think i could have done better by making the title of the book better and by making the pictures more uniformed and maybe be a little more adventurous with the design.
I also would have spent more time on the designing stage of the topic.
I used different effects to change the pictures. And i also changed the contrast and hue saturation of some of my pictures to create different effects.

I have used some pictures from my childhood and some drawing and artwork from my Visual Studies Class.

Start of Book Cover.
I have decided  to use these photos to use for my book cover design.

I played about with the different tools and filters to create some effect for my book cover design here are some of the effect i ended up with.

I decided to go with the other effects and layered because I didn't like the way these effects looked.

3D Wire Research:

Jaume Plensa is a spanish artist who recently unveiled a giant sculpture called wonderland at the base of the bow in calagary.
It stands 39 feet high and plensa was inspired by a girl he met in spain.

House of knowledge at night
I love the creativeness of this sculpture.

Jaume Plensa
Sho
I love the way Jaume has managed to create these giant heads and get them facing each other they look really good.

Alexsander Calder
1898-1976
He quoted "I think best in wire"
I think this is a simple structure with good detail.

Jaume Plensa
House Of Knowledge
Part of a group in which physical body form becomes archetexture.
with text forming a large human shape visitors can walk inside and see the landscape out the letters.
Jaume Plensa Soul xii
brought together these works of art made of cut letter from different alphabets are a really inventive and good idea.

Figure Drawings

We have started a topic called the Figure and we have been doing portrait drawings first we have done self portrait drawing here are my outcomes:

We have also used different media's on a photocopied version of our first drawing to look at colour texture and tone Here Are my Outcomes:

This was done with Acrylic Paint , Pencil and Biro

This Picture Was Done With Acrylic Paint

this is an ink drawing i love the tone and definition of the drawing.
This Was also done With Paint.

Dry Point Research:
I think this piece looks becuase the two prints are laid over the top of each other, gives it a eerie effect.
I like this print for its emotion and line quality the person looks weary and tired like she is been travelling a long time.

i like this particular print the best because of its detail and the facial features are soo life like.
I like these prints because they have a simplistic and emotional feel to them.

Portrait Research

Today i have been doing research of portraits and self portraits and different styles of portraiture.
Here are some i have collected and found so far:

Charis Tsevis

I like this Portraiture by Charis Tsevis Becasue i think the way it has been created is a really interesting and colourful way of creating Portraits.

Leonardo Da Vinci

Evan Rees

I like this Portrait because it is a really simplistic and stripped back portrait.(Evan Rees)

Ian Wright

I think the this artist has created this portrait is fantastic and really skillfully imaginative Piece of art work.

I also Like this portrait becuase i love the way the words create a picture and the words say something about the picture.

I Really like this Portrait becuase i think the colours and the layers are built up into this portrait has a really nice efffect to the picture of drawing its'self.

Again i like this type of Portraiture for it simplicity and tone the artist has really captured this person well.
Murphy Art Elliot
